Taking inspiration from the local environment and travel, Samantha presents a series of evocative atmospheric paintings and photographs, that promote a sense of place and reminiscent landscapes. Inspired by the work of Turner and Rothko she hopes that her work provokes a sense of enlightenment.
To create her mixed media paintings, Samantha has developed her own style using gold leaf, ink and acrylic paint. Firstly, surfaces are prepared with a base of ink which help define the horizon line. Gold leaf is then applied. She then builds layers of colour using acrylic ink , paint and gesso to add depth and texture to the canvasses. Samantha wants her art to provoke memories of landscapes visited and how light changes through the day as light reflects in the gold leaf.

The inspiration for my coastal artwork has come from living on the beach at Hayling Island and travelling along the many beautiful coastlines in the UK & abroad.
My art is simple yet effective and I work in a naive style. Using acrylic paints and a black oil pen, I outline the block colours which makes them come to life.
I love the process of creating original coastal art for clients often depicting special places they have visited, special family memories, their home towns, much loved pets or even Royal Navy ships. The process starts with a photographic image followed by a pencil sketch. This process of de-constructing the photograph and then reconstructing the sketch will often find the reality and sketch not to be geographically accurate, but pleasing to the eye with a natural flow.
From here I will mix my paint colours to give a pastel appearance and a slightly vintage feel, recreating bygone days at the British seaside.
The colours often change on the canvas until I make the perfect combinations, then I apply the finishing touches of the black oil pen.

I began researching and experimenting with bookbinding and absolutely adored it. I spent a long time perfecting my technique before listing my first books on Etsy, made from leather reclaimed from my Grandmother's worn furniture. These books went down incredibly well and so I continued creating, introducing new colours and papers into my shop growing each day to what it is today.
I love what I do and wouldn't change it for the world.

I am a textile artist inspired by nature and light and a desire to preserve precious memories of landscapes and special locations. I want to hold that special moment when you stop and say "wow", that shaft of light, that splash of colour or the angle of a line of trees wrapping around an ancient cottage. Brief moments giving much joy and living long in memory, with the final embroidery as a happy reminder for your home.
My artwork is created in paint and thread using my trusty ancient Bernina to embroider over layered and painted natural textiles - silks, calicos and found scraps. I build up layers of fabric for texture, then paint using gorgeous French fabric paints in soft colours and finally add detail and more texture with free motion embroidery and rayon threads. The result is a calm and atmospheric embroidery of a favourite view.
Based in Sussex, much of my work is inspired by the rolling hills of the South Downs and the light of the Sussex coast, but I equally enjoy capturing your personal memory of any place or landscape to commemorate a special event or preserve a precious view.
